Winter Sessions are 2 day a week for 3 weeks
Session I: 

Monday/Wednesday Classes: June 17th-July 5th
Tuesday/Thursday Classes: June 17th-July 5th (will be 5 classes/discount included)

Session II:

Monday/Wednesday Classes: July 8th-July 26th
Tuesday/Thursday Classes: July 8th-July 26th

Session III:

Monday/Wednesday Classes: July 29th-August 16th
Tuesday/Thursday Classes: July 29th-August 16th

Parent/Child: 6 Months-3 Years Old

  • Children learn to be comfortable in the water.  This class focuses on developing swim readiness, skills through fun, and confidence-building experiences.
  • Enrollment Expectations: Follow directions and be comfortable in the water

Preschool: 3-5 Years Old

Pike – Entry Level Class

  • Students are taught rudimentary front and back strokes, learn water safety, blow bubbles, float, learn core values and have fun!
  • Enrollment Expectations: Follow directions and be comfortable in the water

Ray – Intermediate Class

  • Learn front and back crawl, how to tread water, elementary backstroke and breaststroke introduced, increasing endurance, and have fun!
  • Enrollment Expectations: Can swim about 20 yards independently.

Starfish – Advanced Class

  • Mastery of front/back crawl, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke with increased distance.
  • Enrollment Expectations: Can swim >25 yards independently using different strokes.

 Youth: 6-13 Years Old

Polliwog – Entry Level Class

  • Students are taught front and back strokes, how to float, learn water safety, gain confidence as well as play games.
  • Enrollment Expectations: Follow directions and be comfortable in the water.

Guppy – Beginner Class

  • Students learn front/back crawl, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, may be introduced to breaststroke, confident in deep water, rhythmic breathing.
  • Enrollment Expectations: Controlled body movement in the water, confidence.

Minnow – Intermediate Class

  • Students learn free, back and breast strokes increase distance, use proper technique, as well as learn to stay safe near water.
  • Enrollment Expectations: Can swim long distances using basic strokes.


Our private lessons offer one on one instruction at a day and time that compliments your schedule. Let your instructor know if you want to conquer the fear of water or increase your endurance. Our knowledgeable staff will tailor the lesson to fit your needs.

Our water based aerobics classes will get you moving with no impact on joints and muscles.  Our classes are designed for participants of all levels as well as non-swimmers. Stop by the front desk for a current class offering and program descriptions or download the app for current class offerings. Search, “YMCA of Greater Flint” on your app store. These classes are included with your membership!
