YMCA of Greater Flint

What We Do

The Mission of the YMCA of Greater Flint is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

Focus Areas- areas of impact

  • Youth development: Empowering young people to reach their full potential
  • Healthy living: Improving individual and community well-being
  • Social responsibility: Providing support and inspiring action in our communities

The Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

What Makes a Y Different?

The YMCA recognizes the potential of all people to make our community better. Because we want to eliminate barriers that prevent people from coming to the Y, we provide many free and income-based programs to make it easier for everyone to come to the Y.

Diversity, Inclusion and Global

Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Statement: The YMCA of Greater Flint is committed to creating meaningful change in our community by working to be a space where all people, perspectives, and ideas are welcomed. We are a cause-driven YMCA led by staff and volunteers who strive to promote an inclusive organizational culture that builds equity, values diversity, strengthens inclusion, and fosters global community in the US and abroad. – Accepted by the YMCA Board of Directors, October 2021

The YMCA of Greater Flint is committed to being a welcoming place for all. To that end, in 2021, we created a Diversity, Inclusion and Global (DIG) Committee. The DIG Committee Vision Statement is “The DIG Committee will be a welcoming space and convener of all perspectives and ideas. We will embrace diversity and values that respect all members of our community. Through their guidance, we will do our part to help create meaningful change that starts with our Y, and ripples through our surrounding communities, our state, our country, and our world.”

Currently, the committee is creating a Chart of Work to guide the operations of the committee and association to accomplishing the vision. For more information, contact Thomas Bawden at thomasb@flintymca.org.

People Received Assistance in 2022

Partner With Youth Campaign

This campaign raises money to fund the important work happening every day at the YMCA of Greater Flint. From free programs like our Safe Places Afterschool and Safety Around the Water to camperships to attend camp and income-based memberships for youth, families, and seniors. Help us make a difference in the lives of so many people by donating, volunteering, or attending an event!

The Y provides assistance to ensure that all youth, families, and seniors can use the services at the Y. Visit this page for more information about Income-Based Memberships
