Y Safe Places

Safe Places is a FREE community based summer and after school program for all youth grades K-12th. It is offered by the YMCA of Greater Flint at churches and community centers across the city of Flint. Although the program is free, prior registration is required before students can start session.

“Safe Places is a wonderful program! My daughter looks forward to coming every day. The programs and activities allow her to learn and communicate with her peers. I really appreciate how attentive the Staff are to her needs. This program provides a positive outlet for the youth in the community. I am so glad that we can be involved in the Safe Places program”-Safe Places Parent.

Safe Places 2026 Back To School Rally

The YMCA Safe Places Back-to-School Rally is a community celebration designed to help students and families begin the school year prepared, connected, and confident. Families will receive free backpacks filled with school supplies (while supplies last), explore interactive educational and recreational activity stations, enjoy games, music, refreshments, and family-friendly entertainment, and connect with local organizations offering valuable resources and services. Community partners will provide information on youth programs, health and wellness, transportation, education, and family support. Children will have opportunities to participate in hands-on activities while parents learn about YMCA Safe Places programming and register for the upcoming after-school session. The rally promotes school readiness, community engagement, and positive youth development by bringing families, educators, and community partners together to celebrate the start of a successful school year.
