Covid-19 Response
Serving our community in times of crisis
As we work through this developing crisis, please refer to this page for news and updates, including ways the YMCA of Greater Flint is continuing to serve the Greater Flint Community.
The Y is Reopening!
On September 3, the Governor made the announcement that indoor gyms in our region are allowed to reopen next week. Since the Y closed its doors in March many things have changed for our staff, for our members and for our facility. While many faces and things will look the same at the Y when you return; there will also be many changes. When you return there will be some new faces (wearing masks) and new policies and procedures for us all to follow at the Y. The Y takes safety seriously and before we reopen we will be spending some time to retrain our staff and providing training to you, our members to ensure that we are all ready and prepared for the changes to the facility and procedures.
We are thrilled to announce that we will be reopening our Pierson Rd. YMCA on September 14.
While our Pierson Road Branch will reopen on September 14th, our Downtown Branch will be opening at a future date. This staggered reopening is largely due to a catastrophic water leak that occurred in the building during its closure. We have experienced delays in the repairs which require additional time but have been working diligently to get the building ready to reopen soon!
While everyone is a member of YMCA of Greater Flint, each member has a home branch. At this time, memberships will begin drafting on September 15 for members who are registered to Pierson Rd. Downtown members will not draft at this time. We understand some members will still feel uncomfortable returning to our facility and we want to offer you the opportunity to continue to keep your membership on hold. Click HERE to fill out this quick form to keep your membership on hold.
We know this information may be confusing. If you have any questions please email [email protected] or call 810-732-9622 starting Tuesday, September 8 to Friday, September 11 from 9 am to 5 pm.
We know coming back will feel like joining a gym for the first time. For our staff, it will feel like starting a new job. I know that if we are all patient, take a deep breath, and work together, we can make our Y feel like the welcoming place it is.
Make sure to follow us on social media, sign up for our member newsletter, and check our website for more details about new operating procedures on Thursday, September 10. We are so excited to finally say, “See You Soon!”
Sincerely,
Shelly Hilton, CEO

YMCA Summer Program Update
It is with much difficulty that the staff and board of the YMCA of Greater Flint and Camp Copneconic have elected to cancel programming for the summer of 2020. This has been, and will continue to be, incredibly difficult. Click here for more information about this decision.
